Xcalber is a powerful Weapon that doesn't quite live up to its potential due to the bug preventing family and elemental Weapon properties from functioning. It's still an amazing Weapon, far beyond anything other than the Masmune. You may even consider leaving the Floating Castle as soon as you find the ADAMANT just to go get it. Don't replace it with the Masmune—the Xcalber may be the second-best Weapon in the game, but it's far better than third place. Your best bet is to have your KNIGHT keep using it until the end of the game.

If you find yourself leaving the Flying Fortress before defeating Tiamat, but after you've found the Adamantite, it may be worth a detour to get the Excalibur before returning.

Adamantite is an annoying Component, because it cannot be found anywhere, only purchased. While there are more expensive Components out there, you can find those, making Adamantite the biggest money sink in the game. Fortunately, only three Weapons require it for upgrading, though the Accessories that use it are pretty nice in their own right.
